Blues and Roots

My friend Ngaire came up North for the Blues and Roots festival with Blue King Brown this last weekend and we decided to go down to Byron and catch up with her. Ngaire is an interesting character, a tiny framed, calm, flighty package with a remarkable history and absolutely incredible voice.

We only decided to head down to Byron late Sunday and once we got there, we opted to play spies in the parking lot for a while as it rained. We eventually met up with Ngaire and the Blue King Brown crew after their gig while they were eating dinner backstage with Kasey Chambers and some other high profile bands.

As much as I love Ngaire, I must admit the highlight of Blues and Roots for me was seeing the John Butler Trio perform again. The first time I saw those guys was in 2001 when they were an unknown, mostly percussion performance troupe. Since then they have independently released their albums through their own independent record label and had many top indy hits. The reason why JBT were so great to watch this time round was because the boys have not forgotten their roots, they still have a passion for the preservation of the earth and they push their captivating musical talents to unite their audiences for a more loving and peaceful world.

It was a beautiful thing.

Many thanks to Ngaire for getting us in and it was awesome to be able to see you again before we head overseas. Until our paths cross again superstar best of luck and love!
